Detailed Bio Ruud Janssen
Switzerland based Entrepreneur Ruud Janssen, CMM, DES (1970) has been an innovator and practitioner of Marketing in the Hospitality and Meetings & Events Industry since 1994. He is co-founder of Event Model Generation aimed at creating a common language for Meetings & Events. He also manages TNOC, The New Objective Collective; an unconventional new media marketing collective. He has held management and senior executive positions in the Hospitality, Professional Conference Organising and Association Management Companies such as Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts, Elior and Congrex Group as well as serving as President for MPI, Meeting Professional International in the Netherlands and Director on the International Board of Directors of MPI International. Roles include strategic tasks as an advisory board member of multiple startups, academic institutions and as a jury member of the WorldWide Technology Watch for EIBTM. He is an advisor to a number of startup ventures in Austria and Switzerland as well as a past advisory board member of the Meeting Design Institute and past Steering Committee member of Project Meeting Architecture. He has degrees in hospitality marketing from the Hotel Management School Maastricht and Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, USA. He is an accredited trainer for MPI Global Training and a visiting lecturer at Glion Institute of Higher Education and Hogeschool Zuyd. His specialties include strategic consulting, moderation, online and multimedia marketing, community building, online collaboration for geographically spread teams, training and meeting & service design consultancy.
Curiosity and hands on experience in online applications has guided him through the do’s and don’ts of online marketing for the business environment. His interactive method of collaborating and training are aimed at optimal learning in a professional educational environment. In keynote lectures his sessions inspire and energize industry professionals by tapping into first hand experience in operating events from large scale Corporate, Government and Association Conferences for 3500 participants in Japan to Informal meetings of the European Union and open source Hybrid Events. He is the curator of TEDx events in Basel, Switzerland and is very engaged in the training, application and delivery of sustainable business practices and event ROI. He has authored a number of publications and research papers on Event ROI, Virtual and Hybrid Events and Event Innovation. Ruud has lived in France, the Philippines, USA, the Netherlands and now lives in Switzerland. He speaks English, French, Dutch and German and is a leading new media advocate and trainer. Having lived and worked around the globe he can relate to the everyday challenges faced by professionals when innovating and organising events across complex decision making units for Corporate, Government and Association clients.
Janssen is a published author and frequent facilitator of participant led sessions and formats. He has crafted and delivered in over 45 countries across the world and contributed to hundreds of programmes crafting numerous legendary meeting formats including The Solution Room (in collaboration with Mike Van der Vijver of MindMeeting), Hybrid Chocolate/Wine tasting workshops and Live autopsy Formats to dissect case studies and customer issues. Netherlands based Entrepreneur Roel Frissen, CMM (1974) has been an innovator and entrepreneur in the Meetings & Events Industry since 1999. He is founder of Event Model Generation aimed at creating a common language for Meetings & Events. Roel is a non-executive at Parthen meeting services and founder at Center for Business Model Innovation. Roel started his career working as a project manager at a Professional Congress Organizer where his passion for conferences and events was ignited. Roel took over Parthen in 2009, the company where he worked 6 years then. In 2012 Roel decided to explore further entrepreneurship and changed his role in Parthen to a more non-executive role. Roel is involved in different companies and start ups in different roles. He served as a Board member and President for MPI, Meeting Professional International in the Netherlands and as Director on the International Board of Directors of MPI International (2011-2012) and as Vice-Chairman of MPI International (2012-2014). He has a studied Hotel Management at Stenden University, The Netherlands.
If you keep doing what you always did, you get what you always got. That’s what is going on in his mind. Approaching things differently and making the difference, that is what drives Roel. Roel is a real change maker and is not a strong advocate for the status quo. Constantly challenging this status quo is what led to the conception, birth and further development of the Event Canvas and its methodology. A tool, a hands on methodology to enable people to change the world, one event at the time.
Roel speaks at different events and conferences about different topics, about design thinking, event design sustainability and business modelling. He is also visiting lecturer at a number of Universities such as San Diego State University, Stenden University, University of Amsterdam and many more. Roel speaks English, Dutch, German and French.
